How I Learned Japanese, French, Spanish and Chess In 365 Days!

365 Days of Learning via Duolingo

How to learn a new language everyday

My gosh, I am on a roll. I never thought I would be so consist with learning a new language and more. I am in love with learning and growth that I created some amazing habits I am proud of.

Over the last 365 days, yes 1 whole year straight, I have consistently logged on my Duolingo App, to learn a new language, practice and expand on many other elements.

It’s all started off with my saying hey, I want to go to Japan one day, and have always wanted to learn Japanese. My brother said hey, why don’t you use the Duolingo App. I was like oh snap, I forgot it was there to realize, over the many years it has development and got much more easier and fun to use.

Of course many who have used it, also say, it’s a bit too easy or too skewed. They have also said it mad annoying and always telling you to log in and create a streak and other tactics. Well, that’s what I wanted. I wanted someone, something, to hold me accountable. Tell me stop doom scrolling and wasting my life on social media and a bunch of dumb ish and get back to things you really want out of life. And for me, it was using my brain and learning Japanese.

So in now time I started learning Japanese, it began fun, then hard then satisfying. Then all those anime, and martial arts movies that were Japanese started to make sense.

I even stepped it up another level, after going 90 days straight. I wanted to learn French, and I was right in there learning, practicing, talking those small steps. And no lie, I was horrible at French. Then I remembered I was more familiar with Spanish so I decided to step my game up. I was working with 90% Spanish speaking persons, and they wanted to invite me into their culture. They kept talking in Spanish and said hey Jixi you need to learn Spanish so we can have better communication, so I did.

I gained so much more acquaintances. They were loving it, and I too. After my push back in Spanish for another 90 days, I was like wow, 6 months in, let’s get back into French. Duolingo had just released an update to learn Chess.

I have forever suck at Chess like real bad. I knew how to move a little, but I lacked understanding, strategy, and confidence. Well after spending years of being on of the greatest at checkers (yes I am boasting), I finally can now say I have learned how to play chess practically. I still have ways to go.

In conclusion, over a span of 365 days and onwards, I have committed time, brain power, and intention to learning everyday, simply by opening up an app, Duolingo. No no no, they are no paying me to write this, I genuinely love to learn and have a new found love for all the languages mentioned above and can’t wait to get deeper and be more fluent them all.

I kind of can add a bit of cocky brag to my resume to say I know and can speak multiple languages. Now c’mon, that’s a flex. By the way, I am looking to make new Spanish, French and Japanese friends. I need to practice using my new owned skills.

Just in case you want to know what languages I am going for next, it will be Chinese, Portuguese, and Italian. I have a very long road to go. My commitment for the next 3-7 years is to learn more and grow in all these languages.

Thanks for reading.
