When I lived in the city during my younger years, (see my story “Memories of a Fifth Floor Walk-up”) my best friend and I would always choose a day to play hooky and take in a NYC “site” usually reserved for tourists. One of my very favorite jaunts, was a trip to Ellis Island with a stop at the statue of Liberty. The day ended with cocktails at the South Street Seaport. A perfect way to see New York through different eyes. Another absolute great thing to do while in NYC is to join a walking tour. There used to be a company called “Sidewalks of NY” which met at the Washington Square Arches. Two fav tours they ran were: “Haunted New York” and “Ye Olde Pub Tour.” Sooo much fun….
