On the eve of hitting 900 days of posting on my blog, I celebrate with this free verse poem for the night. I had a great conversation with my friend James that inspired this poem. Based on our talk about life and being our authentic selves, the words just flowed through me on the way to pick up sushi to eat and enjoy anime night at home. I hope you can enjoy and catch some of the amazing metaphors and witty lines.
Free Verse Poem: How To Be A Boss
I am catching misdemeanor charges,
For corrupting all the bosses,
Tallying up all the wins,
While deducting all the losses,
Hitting play after all the pauses,
New York City stay be, freaking awesome.
People be wilding out,
For the salads they be tossing,
It causes a ruckus,
Like wild and crazy kids, let loose on recess.
But still, we stay ready,
Stacked and prepped like late-night pizza orders,
Carving dreams from concrete, crossing invisible borders.
And if the noise gets loud,
Watch your mouth,
I can get petty,
Close your eyes,
Having you drift off to sleep,
Right beside your Teddy.
We’re the heartbeat of chaos, the rhythm of the grind,
Breaking rules to find truths others left behind.
No city compares, no space feels this electric,
We’re the charge in the storm, unapologetically kinetic.
