Exciting “Green Shade Glow” Performance at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe – 2/27

I am so excited to say I had a blast at my performance at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe, New York City for Open Mic Monday on February 27, 2012.  I had a game plan and went in and execute with a lot of fun.   I had the green shades on tonight getting live (reason I wore them, because their spotlight be super bright, to blind someone on stage), I also perform the 1st single off my upcoming Hip-Hop Ep album “The Burna Effect” in which I decided to go with a photo I already had as the album cover.

I performed a little warm up freestyle called, “Get Up” in which is just a joint I use or going to tend pick up once in a while to fill my 5 minute time slot at Open Mics I will be attending.  I almost forget, the song/freestyle will be on the album (silly me), and I also performed “Girls” which is the first single off the album in which this performance is the first time I performed an original song with a beat created and produced by myself, so I was extra proud of that fact.

Either way the performance went like clock work, even though minimal and simple, I felt I am warming up to stage performances.  I can’t wait to get better. I did happen to have a prop malfunction which was quite funny to me, but it didn’t hinder what I was doing, so the show went on.

I insert a few comedic lines and storytelling in between songs, which worked pretty well.  I think I am going to continue to test those out, as well as my witty stage introduction in which I try to get some laughs in quick by the audience, because overall I want everyone to have a good time.

An Artist’s Struggle of 2011, Jixi Fox

It’s been a very tough year being myself on a creative side.  I have idea after idea not to see them produce into results.  The pain of not being recognized for my true talents has been getting to me a little bit.  Entertaining others and making sure everyone has a good time is what I what to do and is very good at but I haven’t gotten the chance to do so.

I can’t say the whole year was a bust, even though a fighting through my infamously known, “Fall Curse of Fail Productivity” ummm that’s just some name I made up to represent that every fall project I have had for the last 3 years were failures.  When I say failure, I don’t mean of the creative side, but  the deliver and being ready on time.

I am ready to break curse, I am ready to be me, I am ready to overcome my struggles and unleash my creativity, to entertain the world.  My album is on the way and so is my book.

I can’t, as the forbidden words echos from my lips,

I am reminded of a promise I made to myself as a little kid,

who was a nobody. an outsider to the world every chance he got he was looking in,

I told myself I can’t is not a real word, it blanket of air that don’t exist,

I can’t what is that?  Who says that?  What doesn’t that even mean?

People rely on me to make the world spin in their eyes

Crying words of pains and favors, while I can’t even shed tears from my own eyes when I cry,

I can’t be the only one who tries his hardest, to not leave burdens on upon anyone else but myself,

I don’t even ask for favors, For when I do people store them away leaving them to dry on shelves,

So if I can do for me, why can’t you do for you,

Damn I use the word can’t again, I am going to rephrase it to say, what can you do for you?

I challenge myself everyday to create possibilities and a direct line of escape,

For all my unknowns I try to prepare myself at all times not to choke or to faint,

I can’t be the only one who don’t want to echo those words,

I can’t, I can’t, I can’t,

I always looks forward to say what I can do,

For if I can do for me and you can’t do for you,

What are you even on this earth to do?

I going to turn the page and see what I have done,

I don’t bust no shots, I need not carry a gun,

What I do is party hard and have me some fun,

I ain’t scare of nobody, so I ain’t got to run,

All of my life I been happy like 5 times,

When I was about 9 I started to write rhymes,

Most were jokes I guess it was just a sign,

When I get older and bolder I am going to shine,

Like it’s a dark night and a shooting star appears,

The only things nappy is my weed and my hair,

It’s once upon a time blah blah I don’t care,

If my moms see this it’s probably gonna disappear,

I hate to be fake but I like fishing on the lake,

My girl said she wanted cake, I gave her some flour and said go bake,

Why should I be bothered with troubled people for Christ sake,

That’s what I wonder, like wonder bread in which don’t taste so great.

While searching in the cupboard for something sweet, I ask myself, where is my Brown Sugar?

Patiently waiting for the day to say,

That love kindly came my way,

And stayed with me when I pray,

For it not to up and leave me abandoned, a stray,

Ok, batter up I am ready for the pitch,

A girl likely not to turn out to be a bitch,

Enriched with qualities and be open for discussions,

Even if they are hard to bear or have repercussions,

Where is my love, my sweetheart, my senorita,

My divine, headstrong, independent mamasita,

Looking through this window

I can see the streets,

People hustling, lying and stealing

Just trying to eat,

Waiting for God to open up

And take them under his wings,

But its hard to live in a world

Surrounded by sin,

I just grin, when I saw this lil’ kid

Gave this girl a kiss,

It reminds me of a caring life

That I once missed,

Things all around us

Might get us pissed,

There is so much to be done

All we need is a solution so we can fix…THIS!!!

I fly away in fear of the feeling,
That brings tears to eyes to cry,
Though is seems I may be ducking and weaving,
It’s simply a choice to not experience the feeling,

We all have options we tend to not explore,
And there is always someone trying to close your open doors,
Some by choice by having thoughts to trap,
Others just want to make you feel bad for being yourself and relapse,

Efforts and timing can change our ways and decisions,
But now a days everyone wants to claim a title or position,
It’s not like it’s a wrong thing, though maybe only not right for you,
Why take down someone trying to fly because of your selfish mood,

Trying to create friction to your world in which I was keeping from existing,
Bring pains to your days where there were  sun days that kept your mood uplifting,
I can’t commit I wish you could see what it will do to me,
Killing my soul, my creativity, my life and soon yours in time, is just how you want it to be.
